Body Boost
This week’s body tip is not an exercise, but a little recipe. Golden Milk is a concoction of spices and milk that is perfect for cooler weather. Heck, even when it is warm you may chill this and it is just as good.

Turmeric contains curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory benefits. Adding black pepper to the turmeric mix increases the bioavailability of curcumin. Cinnamon helps lower blood sugar, and ginger has digestive tract benefits. Coconut milk can help with weight loss as it provides “fat-satisfaction” due to its medium-chain triglycerides (this is a saturated fat so don’t overdo it, though). Honey has anti-bacterial qualities, and if you can get Manuka honey with a rating of 10 or more it’s even better. Overall, a healthful drink that is also very tasty!

•1 can Coconut Milk plus 1 cup of water OR 3 cups of almond/soy/rice/dairy milk
•1 teaspoon Turmeric
•1 teaspoon Cinnamon
•1 teaspoon raw honey or maple syrup or to taste
•Pinch of black pepper
•Tiny piece of fresh, peeled ginger root or ¼ tsp ginger powder

1.Blend all ingredients in a high speed blender until smooth.
2.Pour into a small sauce pan and heat for 3-5 minutes over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
3.Drink immediately.

Remember that if you decide to use dairy milk, you must watch the pot carefully so it doesn’t boil over! Enjoy.

Smart Spirit

As we head into Thanksgiving week here in the States, we are reminded to be grateful. Last week we talked about starting each day thinking of three things for which we’re grateful. This week, I am going to expand on that just a bit. Living in gratitude is a practice not a one-time deal. While it is great to begin each day being thankful, the process doesn’t stop there. Practice gratitude each and every time you face a challenging task, person, or event. Before you launch into addressing the situation, take 10 seconds to be grateful for anything. For example, if your boss scolds you just stop and say, “I’m so grateful to be healthy right now.” Just interrupting your natural knee-jerk reaction with a moment of thankfulness will put the situation in a different light. Try it!

In thankfulness and gratitude for each of you,
